Nigeria tech start-up Treepz a firm formerly known as Plentywaka just made an acquisition of Ugabus the Ugandan inter-city bus company. The CEO and Co-founder Onyeka Akumah of Treepz recently disclosed about the acquisition which was funded with $1.5Million raised through seed funding. The seed funding addition which came from new investors like Japan-based Uncovered Fund, a Dubai-based Blanford Capital and Jononi Capital, also an Egyptian-based Capital firm Jedar Capital took part in the funding . Treepz also acquired, a Ghanian bus company Stabus with a $1.3Million funding which was raised in August. This expansion is making Treepz a true continental Maas brand. According to the CEO Onyeka, ” We’ll be able to service most of the major cities in Uganda, but the good thing about East-Africa is they have a seamless borders between the countries, so its easy to move from Uganda to Rwanda, Uganda to Tanzania, Tanzania to Burundi and so forth.” He also affirmed that,” The plan is to extend Tanzania and Burundi first. Those are places we will pay attention to next year. We are also really interested in Ethopia. So the same we were doing with Ghana, across Ghana to Togo and Benin from Nigeria for the West-African region. So next year, we consolidate on our positions on East-Africa and West-Africa and start collapsing into Sub-Saharan Africa.” Treepz business paradigm has three verticals.(1) It offers minivans and buses, with daily routes from bus stop to bus-stop allowing them to book seats using the app and paying using digital wallets. (2) It also aggregates bus companies providing them with robust management technique.(3) It also does corporate bookings, providing transportation services for businesses.
